Ten craft ideas to do with your kids this memorial weekend. This can be a great way to teach your kids about memorial day while having fun.
1. Patriotic Pinwheels

Create colorful pinwheels using red, white, and blue paper. These patriotic pinwheels not only look festive but kids love to watch them spin in the breeze.
2. Flag Handprints
Capture your child's handprints on a canvas or paper using red, white, and blue paint to create a miniature American flag. Paint their palm blue and their fingers alternating red and white. You can then use yellow fingerprints to represent the stars.

3. Poppy Wreath
Teach children about the significance of poppies on Memorial Day by crafting a wreath adorned with vibrant paper poppies. Discuss the symbolism of the red poppy as a symbol of remembrance and honor.
4. Freedom Bracelets
Craft colorful beaded bracelets/necklaces using red, white, and blue beads. This can also be a great raft for hand/eye coordination.
5. Firework Handprints
Paint your toddlers hands red, white and blue to create fireworks on a canvas.
6. Construction Paper Flag

Cut up a blue square, red and white rectangles, and yellow stars to glue together to make the American Flag. Depending on the ages of your kids this can be a great opportunity to talk about primary colors, shapes, and the significance of the 13 stripes and 50 stars in the flag.
7. Popcycle Stick Star Banner
Paint some popcycle sticks red, white and blue and use 5 sticks to make each star. You can then use string to hang the stars on to make a memorial day banner.
8. Liberty Bell Creations
Replicate the iconic Liberty Bell using paper cups and paint. This craft idea offers the opportunity to talk about historical symbols and their significance in American history.
9. Fingerprint Star Art
On a canvas tape a cut out of a star in the center of the paper. With a marker outline the shape. Then using, red, white and blue paint have your child place their fingertips on the canvas all around the star. Remove the taped star from the canvas.
10. Memorial Day Memory Box
Construct a memory box where children can place mementos or notes of gratitude for veterans and fallen heroes. This thoughtful craft project can foster empathy and understanding in children.
